Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his future after another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the team's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Problems and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period like this with results like these.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
