British Designer Antony Price, Famed for Designing for Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer behind many legendary styles associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.
His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, including the light-hued ensembles that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."
His passing follows just weeks after he presented his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Lasting Legacy
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in menswear at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.
He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to blend menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in shaping form-fitting garments made him a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
During the nineties, he commenced designing ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included various looks for her American tour following her marriage.
Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
