Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces
A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first championship for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult year, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.
Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought competitive victory over challenger Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's initial trophy after the Rome competition and first on a hard court after spring of the previous year.
The win also means Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at 21 different tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is particularly special," stated tennis professional Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
Medvedev's retrieving approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had caused some to wonder if his skill to compete at the top level was over.
However the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.
The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.
Both players exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to create a decider.
He rescued four early break points in a close third set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
