Vince Zampella, the mind behind the wildly popular first-person shooter Call of Duty, has died in a car accident in Los Angeles, California he was 55 years old.

His passing was announced by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, a game studio that he helped create.

The renowned industry figure passed away following his car crashed and burst into flames on a motorway in Los Angeles on Sunday, according to.

"This represents a devastating loss, and our hearts are with Vince's family, those closest to him, and all those touched by his creative vision," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts said.
