The acclaimed police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.

A brand new six-part season created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, according to the production team.

Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."

The previous season concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came recently.

New Challenges for The Team

The seventh season begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain working to combat misconduct within the police force.

The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case to date."

New Character and Intricate Plot

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.

However, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the background, plot details suggested.

In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."

"We're privileged to have had countless fans track the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh installment."

Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."

Actor Responses

Martin Compston described being part of the series as "the role of a career".

"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."

"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.

The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"

The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."

"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those unexpected plot developments."

Series Legacy

The drama launched in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful television series of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Stephen Graham.

Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the new season will hit screens.

The conclusion of season six brought the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and producers indicated at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.

Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
