Trump Invites Relatives of Attacked Military Personnel to White House

President Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the executive mansion.

He mentioned that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Tragic Event

US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.

Gatherings across the state have been held in their honor.

White House Invitation

The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the parents of both soldiers of the state National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president addressed reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”

Public Reaction

Attendees gathered over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.

Both the soldiers had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to assist public safety in Washington DC.

Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom

“She was the individual that educators wished for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” the principal, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the Associated Press. “She was caring, caring and always ready to help others.”

Memorial plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.

Legal Actions and Policy Adjustments

Officials have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.

The incident prompted the administration to suspend asylum applications and halt issuing visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

Status of Andrew Wolfe

The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, per the Associated Press.

He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Morrisey mentioned on television.

Attorney general Pam Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she also intended to visit Wolfe’s family.

Memory of Sarah Beckstrom

Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, working as a law enforcement officer with excellence, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had bravery,” the governor addressed the audience at the vigil. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
