An extensive 60-day voyage circling Australia has been cancelled days after the tragic passing of an older woman who was stranded by the vessel on a distant tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been walking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the vessel, but broke off from the group for a rest. The vessel sailed away leaving her and went back later that day after the personnel realised the passenger was not present.

A major rescue mission located her person the following day.

Authorities are looking into the event, together with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Head of the shipping company stated that guests and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were told that the remainder of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and previous engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he further stated that travelers would be issued a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the travelers via chartered flights".

Authorities also issued an latest communication, and said they had "provided a directive to the Master" banning any new passengers from boarding the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the ship in the port city upon its arrival.
