World Series Game 7 Draws Over 50 Million Viewers In the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The exciting extended contest where the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined 51M watchers across the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB reported this represents the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday epic game averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th place.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English-language program in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12M. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Totals and Trends

The entire seven-game series averaged 15.71M viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete American viewership reached 16.1M. The overall World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew over 8 million viewers, an eight percent increase over last year and the network’s strongest playoff performance since the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 different languages.
